The European Union adopted new restrictive measures on 6 October against 30 individuals and 7 Russian entities in response to the escalation of the conflict. The EU also expanded the criteria for imposing restrictive measures, including the possibility of targeting those who facilitate the circumvention of sanctions.

Those affected by the new measures include organisers of the referendums held in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine, senior officials of the Russian Ministry of Defence, key figures involved in the Russian arms industry, Alexander Dugin, and two Russian singers.

The entities targeted by the new restrictive measures include companies operating in the Russian defence and security sectors, as well as the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation.

At present, EU restrictive measures apply to 1,236 individuals and 115 entities. It is worth recalling that persons and companies subject to restrictive measures face asset freezes, while EU citizens and businesses are prohibited from making funds available to them. Individuals are also subject to travel bans preventing entry into or transit through EU territory.
